Redeeming a download code on the web

You can now redeem download codes for Nintendo 3DS software on the web! By logging in with your Nintendo Network ID, your software will start downloading to your Nintendo 3DS family system, so it’ll be ready and waiting the next time you pick up your system*.

How it works

Starting your download couldn’t be easier!

Before you get started, make sure you’ve connected your Nintendo 3DS family system to the internet, and enabled Automatic Software Downloads in System Settings -> Internet Settings -> SpotPass.

That way, while your system is in Sleep Mode, it’ll automatically download new software and updates from the internet.

Step 1

Step 2

Log in using the Nintendo Account that is linked with your Nintendo Network ID

Please note: if your NNID is not linked with a Nintendo Account, you can create a Nintendo Account at

After creating a Nintendo Account, your NNID can be linked under ‘Linked Accounts’ in the ‘User Information’ menu.

Step 3

Once you're logged in, enter your 16-digit code, click on ‘NEXT’, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process

That’s it! The next time your Nintendo 3DS family system connects to the internet, it’ll start downloading your software, so it’ll be ready to go when you are.

If you haven’t activated SpotPass, you can still follow the above steps to redeem your download code, but you’ll need to start the download on your system manually. Visit Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo 3DS family system, select Settings/Other from the top menu, then Titles You’ve Downloaded. Find the title you want to download, select “Download”, and away you go!

Using a download code sent via email

If you’re signed up to receive Nintendo newsletters, you may occasionally receive emails containing download links for special demos or other downloadable content.

Once you’ve clicked the link and signed into the website with your Nintendo Network ID, your download will start automatically. Keep your eyes peeled for special newsletters in the future!

*Download speed depends on multiple factors, including the speed of your internet connection. Wireless internet connection required. The registration of Nintendo Network ID and acceptance of the Nintendo Network Agreement and Privacy Policy are required.
