Super Scribblenauts

System: Nintendo DS Release date: 29/10/2010

If you thought Scribblenauts was super, prepare for a new game in the series that makes the power of words even more potent! Super Scribblenauts for Nintendo DS builds on the ground-breaking original, offering more ways to solve the puzzles in your path by simply writing whatever pops into your head.

The idea in Super Scribblenauts is simple. Taking charge of Maxwell, you’ll have to complete objectives given to you and collect starites by using a combination of imagination and your Nintendo DS stylus. For example, you might find yourself staring at a chasm with no apparent way over. No problem. Simply write the word “bridge” on the Touch Screen and a bridge will appear to provide safe passage to the other side! Of course, if you’d rather travel by helicopter, jet or find an altogether more inventive solution, all you have to do is write the relevant words and watch your chosen items appear in the game!

Where Super Scribblenauts differs from its predecessor lies in the vastly increased options for the type of type of items you can drop into the game and the wider variety of challenges awaiting Maxwell, as well as how he interacts with the world around him.

The addition of over 10,000 adjectives to the game’s dictionary means that instead of creating a polar bear, you’ll be free to bring a shy green polar bear into existence! The expanded possibilities know virtually no bounds, and seeing is believing as the items you create behave based on your descriptions. As if that isn’t enough to transform the experience, the game also boasts an expanded list of basic objects, offering even more possibilities as you play.

On top of all that, Super Scribblenauts includes more than 120 all-new levels, designed to offer a more in-depth, lengthier and varied playing experience. New challenges might have you creating all the items you can think of based on a certain theme. It may sound easy, but will your brain take the strain when it comes to dreaming up all the relevant things needed to turn a blank space into an office, a car wash or a birthday party? Other levels still will give you a story-based challenge to complete – such as becoming the tooth fairy or finding a cure for an out-of-control virus.

Also new in Super Scribblenauts is the way Maxwell and the world around him actually work. As well as directing his movements and interactions with objects using an improved Touch Screen control system, you now have the option of moving him around with the +Control Pad. The weight, buoyancy and friction of all the elements surrounding Maxwell have also been reworked to make objects interact more accurately based on player input.

The list of additions continues with a brand-new level editor that allows you to create your own challenges down to the smallest detail, as well as a new merit system that reflects certain achievements you make as you play the game.

Just like in Scribblenauts, the aim of the game is to write anything and solve everything – only in Super Scribblenauts, anything and everything reflects a whole lot more than ever before!

  • Find more solutions to the puzzles you’re presented with thanks to an expanded list of basic items and the addition of over 10,000 adjectives that affect how your created items behave.
  • Enjoy a wider variety of challenges, including story-based levels and a game mode that calls on you to populate a blank space based around a certain theme.
  • A gameplay overhaul means you can control Maxwell with the +Control Pad as well as the Nintendo DS Touch Screen, while improved physics make all his interactions feel more natural.
  • Create your own levels and gain recognition for achieving certain aims as you play through over 120 challenging levels.
  • The game is also playable in Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Finnish, among other languages.
