  • What's new in NEW PLAY CONTROL! Mario Power Tennis?

    26/02/2009

NEW PLAY CONTROL! Mario Power Tennis is the latest release in the NEW PLAY CONTROL! series of games, which takes classic Nintendo GameCube titles and brings them bang-up-to-date for Wii. New features, new experiences and, most importantly, new ways to control the games are waiting for you, whether you’re new to the titles or have played the originals on GameCube.

In NEW PLAY CONTROL! Mario Power Tennis, playing couldn’t be easier with the Wii Remote. Using the Wii Remote as your tennis racket makes the game more realistic, more intuitive and more action-packed than ever before! Read on to discover the range of shots you can hit and how to do so with the Wii Remote. You can check out all the exciting game details next week, when the official Mario Power Tennis website launches at nintendo.co.uk!

    Shot Basics
Every Grand Slam winner needs a powerful serve, and you’re no exception! To serve, simply use the +Control Pad or Control Stick to find a good position on the baseline and flick the Wii Remote upwards to throw the ball up. Flick the Wii Remote again at the right time to hit the ball and watch your serve speed over the net. Equally important is the return! When the ball is travelling towards you, flick the Wii Remote to return it. As with the serve, timing is the most important thing – and practice makes perfect! The faster you flick the Remote, the stronger the shot, so make sure to vary your speed and try to wrongfoot your opponent.

    Smash, Slice and Volley!
Your tennis games would get pretty monotonous if you just hit flat shots back and forth. So here’s your chance to spice things up a little by introducing some shot types. If you can master all these, you’ll be well on your way to victory! You can put Topspin or Slice on any shot by flicking the Wii Remote from lower right to upper left and vice-versa. Smash your way past the competition by looking out for a star on the court when the ball is coming in high. Move to the ball and flick downwards to send that ball into orbit. If you’re a strategist, the Lob and Drop Shot will be your friends. Flick the Wii Remote directly upwards to lob and directly downwards to place a beautiful drop shot just over the net.

    Power your way to victory!
The secret weapon of every Mario Power Tennis player is his Power Shot. Each character has two unique moves that will flummox the enemy or defend you against a forceful return. To activate a Power Shot, wait until the Power Gauge on your screen fills up. Once the gauge hits maximum, you’re ready to fire off a winner! You can choose how to apply Power Shots – in Easy Mode, a Power Shot will be unleashed automatically when the gauge is full. In Normal Mode, hold the A Button or B Button and flick to hit it; in Technical Mode, use the A Button for attacking shots and the B Button with defensive shots and flick the Wii Remote. These latter options give you the freedom to use your Power Shots strategically when you feel the time is right.

Take on all comers and power your way to the top of the circuit in Mario Power Tennis on Wii!

NEW PLAY CONTROL! Mario Power Tennis is out March 6, on Wii.
