Game Boy Game Pak Troubleshooting - Specific Games

Pokémon Red, Blue, Gold & Silver Versions
  1. Game Keeps Erasing

In some rare cases, the saved data in Pokémon may be lost if you reset or turn your system off too soon after saving a game. Make sure you are waiting a few seconds after the save message disappears before turning the system off.

Do not link U.S. and Japanese games. If players trade data between the U.S. and Japanese games, it will destroy the saved data on both game paks, forcing players to re-start their games from scratch.

In a very few Pokémon Red and Blue game paks, the battery chip inside the game may become disconnected. Due to the age of the game, we cannot offer repair or replacement. There are newer Pokémon versions released for the Game Boy Advance systems, but if you are interested in purchasing an older Pokémon game, we recommend checking the used game market. 2. MissingNO / Pokémon 000

MissingNO is a programming quirk, and not a real part of the game. When you get this, your game can perform strangely, and the graphics will often become scrambled. The MissingNO Pokémon is most often found after you perform the Fight Safari Zone Pokémon trick.

To fix the scrambled graphics, try releasing the MissingNo Pokémon. If the problem persists, the only solution is to re-start your game. This means erasing your current game and starting a brand new one.

  3. Flashing Screen

This is actually a common game play question and not a problem with your game. One of the Pokémon has been either poisoned, burned, or frozen. To fix this, return to a Pokémon Center and heal them, or give them an appropriate cure for what ails them. If the Pokémon is not healed, they will keep being damaged and eventually faint.

  4. Can't Trade/Can't battle in the Colosseum

You cannot trade or battle in the Colosseum until you have the Pokédex and at least two Pokémon each. Both players must plug in the link cable before talking to the woman, or you will receive the message "This area is reserved for 2 friends who are linked by cable." If you wait too long to connect, you will get a message saying that the club has closed due to inactivity. In this case, simply restart the game, go to the club, and connect more quickly.

Note: Players do not need to be the in the same center.

  5. Stuck in an area and can't get out

If you get stuck inside a level and cannot find your way out, you can let all of your Pokémon be defeated. This will return you to the last Poké center you visited. Your money will be cut in half, but you will get out of the area back to safety.

Pokémon Gold & Silver Versions

When is Daylight Savings Time? What is it? How do I change it?

Daylight Savings Time begins in the US at 2:00a.m. on the first Sunday in April, and ends at 2:00a.m. on the last Sunday of October. When it begins, clocks are set ahead one hour to make the day last longer. When it ends, clocks are set back one hour. To change it in the game, speak to your Mother in New Bark Town.

Please Note: If the time was set incorrectly when the game was started, there is no way reset it. Players will need to start a new game to change the clock.

The only benefit of having this set properly is to have the in-game clock match up properly with real time for aesthetic value. Players who have it set wrong will still be able to accomplish everything in the game.

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire Versions

  1. "Internal battery has run dry" error message

This occurs when there is a problem with the internal battery of the Pokémon game pak that regulates the clock feature of the game. For the most part, other than a few minor events, this will not affect game play, nor will there be any loss of saved data. The save info is preserved in the game's memory chip, not the battery.

  2. Certain Berries have Stopped Growing

In Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, certain berry trees will stop producing berries after you've played your game for one year. Now, there are five different ways to make sure that your berry patches never dry up. Click here for more information.

Hamtaro: Ham Ham Games

Mega Man Battle Network 4: Blue Moon Version

Game Locks Up when played on Nintendo DS

This is a known incompatibility between the game and the Nintendo DS. Unfortunately, this game cannot be played properly on the Nintendo DS and should instead be played on the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, or Game Boy Player.
