Playing in a "Wordwide Race" (with anyone)
Race against other players from around the world. Choose from VS, where up to 11 players race against one another, or Battle where two teams of up to six players each battle against each other.
How to Begin a Worldwide Race:
- From the Mario Kart Wii main menu, select the desired player license.
- Select either the 1 player or 2 players option under "Nintendo WFC," depending on how many people will be playing through your Wii console.
- Select "Worldwide," then select either "VS" or "Battle."
- Select the desired character, then the desired vehicle. Select Automatic or Manual drifting to begin searching for opponents.
What is the difference between Automatic and Manual drifting?
- With automatic drifting, as you go around corners, you won't slow down, but you'll be unable to hop or use the Mini-Turbo boost.
- With manual drifting, as you go around corners, you'll slow down slightly, but you can hop and if you keep the drift button held down, you'll be able to use a Mini-Turbo boost.
- Once enough opponents are found, select "Random" to vote on a random course or stage, or select "Vote," then select the desired stage to vote for a specific course or stage.

Playing in a "Regional Race" (with anyone)
Race against other players from your region. Choose from VS, where up to 11 players race against one another, or Battle where two teams of up to six players each battle against each other.

Race against players registered on your friend roster. Choose from VS, where up to 11 players race against one another, or Battle where two teams of up to six players each battle against each other.
How to Begin a Friends Race:
- From the Mario Kart Wii main menu, select the desired player license.
- Select either the 1 player or 2 players option under "Nintendo WFC," depending on how many people will be playing through your Wii console.
- Select "Friend," then select either "Create a Room" to begin a new game or "Find a Friend" to join a race.
- If you created the room, select "Close," then choose from VS Race, Team VS, Battle, or Team Battle.
- Select the desired character, then the desired vehicle. Select Automatic or Manual drifting to begin searching for opponents.

How to register a friend
In order to race a friend in a "Friends Race", you must both exchange and enter each other's Mario Kart Wii Friend Code. You must do this even if you have exchanged Friend Codes and Wii numbers from other games.
Once you have your friend's Mario Kart Wii Friend Code, follow these steps to register it:
- From the Mario Kart Wii title screen, press the A/a or 2 Button (depending on which controller you are using).
- Highlight your profile and press the A/a or 2 Button. Highlight "Nintendo WFC - 1 Player" and press the A/a or 2 Button.
- After connecting to the Nintendo WFC, highlight "Friends" and press the A/a or 2 Button. Highlight "Register a Friend" and press the A/a or 2 Button.
- Use the on-screen numbers to enter the Friend Code, then highlight "OK" and press the A/a or 2 Button to add the friend.
Remember! Your friend must do the same with your Friend Code.

How to find your Friend Code
In order to race a friend in a "Friends Race", you must both exchange and enter each other's Mario Kart Wii Friend Code. You must do this even if you have exchanged Friend Codes and Wii numbers from other games.
Follow these steps to find your Mario Kart Wii Friend Code:
- In order to get your Mario Kart Wii Friend Code, you must connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection with Mario Kart Wii. Once have connected at least once, continue with the steps below.
- Your Friend Code will be displayed underneath your name.
Remember! You must give your Mario Kart Wii Friend Code to the friend you wish to race against, and they must register your Mario Kart Wii Friend Code.

How to find erase a Friend
If you wish to remove a friend you have registered, follow these steps. Please note that by doing so you will no longer be able to race them in "Friends Race" matches.
- On the title screen, press the A/a or 2 Button (depending on which controller you are using).
- Highlight your profile and press the A/a or 2 Button. Highlight "Nintendo WFC - 1 Player" and press the A/a or 2 Button.
- After connecting to the Nintendo WFC, highlight "Friends" and press the A/a or 2 Button. Highlight "Find a Friend" and press the A/a or 2 Button.
- Highlight the friend you want to remove, then press the A/a or 2 Button. Highlight "Delete" and press the A/a or 2 Button. Highlight "Delete" and press the A/a or 2 Button. Highlight "Yes" and press the A/a or 2 Button to remove your friend.
Important! All ghosts related to the friend will be deleted when you remove the friend.
