WEP Key Help

 

 

What is WEP:
WEP is a type of security that is used to protect home wireless networks, and it is the only security setting that works with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. If you are not sure how to find your router's WEP Key or if you have problems entering it into your Nintendo DS, try the following tips:

Where do I find my WEP Key?
You can find the WEP Key settings for your router under the "Wireless" or "Wireless Security" sections in your router settings on your PC. Security must be set to WEP key not to any other type of security setting in order for you to have access to WEP Key information.

My WEP Key is all asterisks (*******). What do I do?
The Nintendo DS will not be able to accept this WEP Key. In order to enable play on your Nintendo DS you will have to reset your WEP Key on your router. If you change it, you will likely need to change the WEP key on all wireless devices on your network.

I use a passphrase for my WEP Key. Can I use this?
Some routers allow you to enter a Passphrase. This is then converted to a WEP Key number. When you are entering a WEP Key into the Nintendo DS, the actual WEP Key is required. The Passphrase will not work.

Should I use HEX or ASCII when creating a WEP Key?
When entering a WEP Key, you have the choice of entering Hexadecimal or ASCII characters. Hexadecimal (HEX) is the easiest to use. You can either create a 10-digit (64-bit) or 26-digit (128-bit) key. We recommend the 10-digit. Consider using an easy-to-remember number.

There's more than one WEP Key for my router. Which one should I use?
Many routers offer multiple WEP Key entry areas (usually numbered 1 through 4), and allow you to select the one that you wish to be the active WEP Key for your access point. The Nintendo DS is only compatible with the WEP Key entered in the first (#1) area
