SD Card Menu Troubleshooting

 

This section covers troubleshooting information for the SD Card Menu, which is available on Wii console's with Wii Menu 4.0 or higher (more info).

What kind of information do you need?

 


SD Card Menu not appearing on Wii menu

The SD Card Menu is accessed from the "SD Card" icon on the Wii menu for Wii console's with Wii Menu Version 4.0 or higher. For more information on upating your Wii console's Menu, click here.

 

 

 

 

"Nothing is inserted in the SD Card Slot."

If you have an SD or SDHC Card properly inserted into the Wii console, follow these steps:

  1. Go back to the Wii menu, and turn the power OFF on the Wii console.
  2. Remove the SD or SDHC Card and check the SD Card label to verify that it has the SD or SDHC logo.
  3. Try the card in another compatible device, such as a digital camera or cell phone.
  4. If it works in another device, re-insert the card into the SD Card slot on the Wii console and power the console back ON.
  5. Go back into the SD Card Menu.

If the steps above do not help, try another SD Card. If you receive this error with more than one SD Card, your Wii console may need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.

 

 

 

 

"The device inserted in the SD Card Slot cannot be used."

If you receive this error message, please try the following:

  1. Go back to the Wii menu, and turn the power OFF on the Wii console.
  2. Remove the SD or SDHC Card and check the SD Card label to verify that it has the SD or SDHC logo.
  3. Try the card in another compatible device, such as a digital camera or cell phone.
  4. If it works in another device, re-insert the card into the SD Card slot on the Wii console and power the console back ON.
  5. Go back into the SD Card Menu.

If the steps above do not help, try another SD Card. If you receive this error with more than one SD Card, your Wii console may need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.

 

 

 

 

"An SD Card process failed."

If you receive this error message, please try the following:

  1. Go back to the Wii menu, and turn the power OFF on the Wii console.
  2. Remove the SD or SDHC Card and check the SD Card label to verify that it has the SD or SDHC logo.
  3. Try the card in another compatible device, such as a digital camera or cell phone.
  4. If it works in another device, re-insert the card into the SD Card slot on the Wii console and power the console back ON.
  5. Go back into the SD Card Menu.

If the steps above do not help, try another SD Card. If you receive this error with more than one SD Card, your Wii console may need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.

 

 

 

 

"There are so many channels stored on this SD Card that not all of them can be displayed on the SD Card Menu."

If you receive this error message, it appears that the SD or SDHC Card's memory is full. Please try the following:

  1. Transfer some items (WiiWare, Virtual Console games, etc.) from the SD Card to the Wii system's memory (more info).
  2. Go back to the Wii menu, and turn the power OFF on the Wii console.
  3. Remove the SD Card from the Wii console, and inserted another.
  4. Power the console back ON.
  5. Transfer the item(s) you just copied to the Wii system memory to the new SD Card (more info).

If the steps above do not help, try another SD Card. If you receive this error with more than one SD Card, your Wii console may need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.

 

 

 

 

"Failed to launch."

If you receive this error message, please try the following:

  1. Try to launch the game or Wii Channel several times. If you are still receiving this message, continue with the steps below.
  2. Return to the Wii menu, and access the Wii Shop Channel.
  3. Re-download the game or Wii Channel (how to) to the Wii menu.
  4. Launch the game or Wii Channel to ensure it launches properly.
  5. Return to the Wii menu, then delete from the SD Card the game or Wii Channel that failed to launch originally (how to).
  6. Once the version that was not able to launch is deleted, copy the newer working version from the Wii system memory to the SD Card (how to).
  7. Launch the game or Wii Channel from the SD Card Menu.

If the steps above do not help, try another SD Card. If you receive this error with more than one SD Card, your Wii console may need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.

 

 

 

 

"There is not enough free space on the SD Card. Please manage the SD Card to free up additional space."

If you receive this error message, it appears that the SD or SDHC Card's memory is full. Please try the following:

  1. Transfer some items (WiiWare, Virtual Console games, etc.) from the SD Card to the Wii system's memory (more info).
  2. Go back to the Wii menu, and turn the power OFF on the Wii console.
  3. Remove the SD Card from the Wii console, and inserted another.
  4. Power the console back ON.
  5. Transfer the item(s) you just copied to the Wii system memory to the new SD Card (more info).

If the steps above do not help, try another SD Card. If you receive this error with more than one SD Card, your Wii console may need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.

 

 

 

 

"The SD Card is locked. To save, move, or erase data, please unlock the SD Card."

If you receive this error message, it appears that the SD or SDHC Card has a switch set to "locked." Please try the following:

  1. Go back to the Wii menu, and turn the power OFF on the Wii console.
  2. Remove the SD or SDHC Card from the Wii console, and look for a small switch.
  3. Ensure the switch is in the "unlocked" position.
  4. Re-insert the SD or SDHC Card
  5. Power the console back ON and try again.

If the steps above do not help, try another SD Card. If you receive this error with more than one SD Card, your Wii console may need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.

 

 

 

 

"This SD Card is write-protected. No changes can be made to the order of channels."

If you receive this error message, it appears that the SD or SDHC Card has a switch set to "locked." Please try the following:

  1. Go back to the Wii menu, and turn the power OFF on the Wii console.
  2. Remove the SD or SDHC Card from the Wii console, and look for a small switch.
  3. Ensure the switch is in the "unlocked" position.
  4. Re-insert the SD or SDHC Card
  5. Power the console back ON and try again.
