Sound or Microphone Problems
- No sound through
speakers:
- Make sure nothing is inserted into the headphone port.
- Check the volume control on the bottom of the system to make
sure it's not all the way to the left.
- Check the settings of the game you are playing to make sure
any sound options are set correctly.

- No sound through
headphones:
- Check the volume control on the bottom of the system to make
sure it's not all the way to the left.
- Remove the headphones from the headphone connector. If you
can hear sounds through the DS's speakers, then the problem
is likely with the headphones, and they should be replaced.
- If possible, try another set of headphones. The Nintendo DS
uses a 3.5mm jack, which is standard. If it works with another
set of headphones, then the problem is with the headphones.
- If you are using the Headphone Adapter, remove
the Headphone Adapter from the system and the headphones. Insert
the headphones into the standard headphone connector of the
DS. If you can hear sound, then the Headphone Adapter is the
problem (click here
for replacement information). If you still cannot hear the sound,
the headphones may be the problem. Try using a different pair
of headphones if possible.

- Sound out of
only one speaker
- Turn the system off, remove all games, turn the volume up
to at least halfway, then turn the system back on.
- When the screen powers on, they should hear a tone from both
speakers. (If necessary, hold it up to you ear.)
- If they can hear a tone from both, the speakers are fine.
Consult the manual for the game you are trying to play to see
if it has any sound options that can be adjusted.
If either of the speakers does not make a sound when the unit is
turned on, there is a problem with the Nintendo DS. Click
