  • Count the calories with Wii Fit Plus

    05/10/2009

There’s lots to gain by doing a little exercise. Regular workouts can improve our mood, keep us healthy, boost our energy levels and even help ensure we get a good night’s sleep. But while the overall gains brought about by exercise are the best reason to stay in shape, knowing what we’ve lost can be a powerful motivator as we strive to stick to our training regime.

With Wii Fit Plus, keeping track of how many calories you lose when you exercise is a piece of cake. The software’s Calorie Check feature lets you determine how many calories you hope to shed via your Wii Fit Plus workout, and offers instant feedback on how close you are to achieving your goals.

To keep things simple, the Calorie Goal menu displays a variety of icons showing common foodstuffs. So, if you munched down a sneaky bag of crisps at lunch time and feel like you need to make a dent in the calories it contained, just select the relevant icon to set the approximate number of calories in a bag of crisps as your target figure.

Every time you exercise with Wii Fit Plus, the software will tell you how many calories you’ve burned on the Calorie Check menu – letting you know if your efforts amount to a single butter biscuit or a bowl of peaches in syrup. It’ll also make sure you’re informed when you reach your Calorie Goal for the day.

To calculate how many calories you’re burning, Wii Fit Plus uses the Metabolic Equivalent Task (MET) calculation system. This system assigns a certain MET value to every exercise in Wii Fit Plus, which is then multiplied by your weight and the time you’ve spent exercising to reveal how many calories you’ve managed to burn. Of course, the most important part of the equation is your willingness to get your feet on the Wii Balance Board!

You can take a closer look at what METs are, how they work, and how the exercises in Wii Fit Plus can help you to shed calories by clicking here and visiting our interactive Wii Fit Calorie Meter website.

Wii Fit Plus is in shops 30 October, only for Wii.
