Nintendo Switch Sports: News recap!

We hope you’ve been enjoying the thrill of competition in the Nintendo Switch Sports™ game (and the relaxing vibes of Spocco Square). The game has been out for almost an entire year, and we’d like to thank each and every fan for the time they spent with their favorite sports: whether it’s Golf*, Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton, or Chambara. We really appreciate it and hope you continue to enjoy the game!

There’s a bit of news to catch you up on, so let’s get to it.

In-game rewards: Week of April 12, 2023

The “Play Globally” mode** is where you have the chance to earn colorful (and sometimes shark-based) in-game items for your character. This is the last new set being produced, and it will be available from April 12 at 10:00 p.m. PT to May 3 at 10:00 p.m. PT.

Although this is the last new set, please don’t worry! Previous items that you may have missed will be rotated back into the mix starting next week. There are 52 weeks' worth of items to collect, and sets will appear in the same order as they originally did when the game launched.

Also, keep an eye on which sports are currently included in the weekly “points campaigns” so you can obtain points and collect items even faster. Good luck to all you collectors out there!

Version 1.4.0

In case you missed it, the Version 1.4.0 update released in early March and added some features:

  • In “Play Globally,” completing all three sets of items/outfits during a week will now cause an additional reward list*** to appear (these items are from past collections you may have missed, so it may help with your item collecting. You’ll get a chance to do this once a week.

  • If you’re looking for a different kind of Golf challenge, try using a secret code in "Play Locally"**** or "Play with Friends."**** In the Sport selection screen, place the cursor on "Golf" and press [ZR + R + A] or [ZL + L + ▸]. You’ll know it worked if you hear a special sound effect. This code will turn off much of the explanatory UI—so you won’t have things like the mini-map, shot meter, or wind display on the screen. Hopefully, this will bring your experience closer to the feeling of playing actual golf!

  • 23 hidden items were added, and you can obtain them by fulfilling secret conditions. We won’t reveal all the conditions, but here are some to get you started:

    • For something a little golden, try winning against a “Powerhouse” CPU in “Play Locally.” There’s an item for each sport, and some sports have different criteria. In Bowling, you can get it by obtaining a score of 200 points or more in any lane. In Golf, you can get it by obtaining a score of -1 or less in an 18-hole course.

    • Ready for a crowning achievement? To get a golden crown, reach A rank in a sport’s Pro League**—there are seven to collect altogether. If you already reached A League or above, try playing one match to unlock the item. If you’re going crown collecting, just remember to turn on “Play Pro” in the Options menu.
