Team up with Mario and an oddball group of heroes in Super Mario RPG, available now

Star Road has been shattered and the world’s wishes are in jeopardy! Only the combined strength of Mario, Bowser, Peach, Mallow, and Geno can find the seven Star Pieces and send the Smithy Gang packing.

(And reclaim Bowser’s Keep in the process. You didn’t think he was joining out of the goodness of his heart, didja?)

So what’s this game all about?

The Super Mario RPG™ game for the Nintendo Switch™ system is a fully updated version of an RPG classic.

In this delightfully weird and heartwarming adventure, you’re on a mission to save people’s wishes. During the course of this journey, weddings will go awry, Axem Rangers will pose defiantly, and pirates will say piratey stuff. You’ll explore colorful environments and dip your toes in turn-based battles. And, of course, you’ll meet some very, uh, eccentric characters in the process (yes, we’re talking about you, Booster).

As a fun fact, the original game was Mario’s very first RPG adventure. That means that the Paper Mario™ and Mario & Luigi™ series of games drew some inspiration from Super Mario RPG!

What if I’m not really an RPG person?

Not all types of games are for everyone, and that’s totally OK! But don’t worry if you’ve never played an RPG before—this game will walk you through the basics. You can also always turn on Breezy mode if you’re still finding things a bit too difficult.

What has been added to the game since the original release?

In addition to the fancy updated look and Breezy mode, Super Mario RPG for the Nintendo Switch system adds some fun new features. The gameplay has been refined, and you can perform a flashy new option called a Triple Move. During this move, all the characters in your party will work together to pull off something extra powerful. What does this move actually do? Try experimenting around! (And keep in mind this move will change depending on who’s in your party.)

Moreover, if you like a challenge, you can fight powered-up versions of some bosses after clearing the game.

And finally, you can groove to a snazzy, updated soundtrack. If you’re feeling nostalgic, you can also easily flip back to the original version of the soundtrack too!

Are Geno and Mallow as cool as people say they are?

Yes.
