What's this trail of black goop along the path? And what's with the cavernous hole at its end? It's a hole that leads to a terrifying world where lava balls rain down incessantly. And that giant beast rampaging in the distance… Is that…Bowser?! So begins Mario's latest adventure – a quest to help the berserk Bowser back to his usual self.

After a long fall, Mario finds himself at Lake Lapcat, surrounded by cats, cats, and more cats. Bowser's army also seems a little different too... Along with Bowser Jr., who's uncharacteristically asked for help, Mario sets off into this bewildering feline world.

Mario's co-adventurer Bowser Jr. is there to help when needed. Give a Joy-Con™ to a friend and you can work together, one person controlling Mario and the other Bowser Jr.

When it comes to exploring the many islands dotting Lake Lapcat, you couldn't ask for a better partner than Plessie! Hop on and have an easy ride wherever you want to go – along the water's edge or over sandy beaches.

The world becomes a dark and terrifying place! When Fury Bowser awakens, the once-calm world is no more! All is plunged into darkness amid torrential rain as Fury Bowser's spikes and fireballs pummel the ground. Then moments later, the beast vanishes and calm is briefly restored.

Even the adorable cats fall victim to the frenzy,
and rush Mario in attack.

When the beast appears, the Giga Bell awakens! So it is said in Lake Lapcat legend. However, this great Giga Bell happens to be covered in pitch-black goop! To clear it away, it seems that Mario and Bowser Jr. will need to explore every nook and cranny of the lake and its islands and gather the Cat Shines.

With the power of the legendary Giga Bell, Mario undergoes a radical transformation into Giga Cat Mario!
