About the Games

As the name implies, 42 All-Time Classics features a total of 42 famous games; all playable via the simple touch screen control of Nintendo DS. That means no cards to shuffle, no boards to set up and no tiny playing pieces to lose.

Among the 42 are classic card games like Black Jack and Texas Hold 'Em, cerebral challenges like Ludo and Chess, and fun pub favourites such as Solitaire or Darts.

With 42 All-Time Classics, not only are you carrying a whole game compendium in your pocket but also there's always someone to play against. All games in 42 All-Time Classics can be played against or with the computer. Plus, if you fancy your chances against human opposition you can link up wirelessly with other Nintendo DS owners. And if that's still not enough of a challenge, you can even go online via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and face challengers anywhere in the world!

Not all games featured in 42 All-Time Classics are available straight away, so you'll need to 'unlock' them all by proving your skills in the Single Player mode. See the Single Player section for more details.

Some games support the Nintendo DS Rumble Pak (sold separately). If a Nintendo DS Rumble Pak is inserted into the Game Pak slot, it will rumble to signify when it's your turn to play.

Single Player

Normally, being a solo player means you are limited by the kind of card and board games you can enjoy - but not with 42 All-Time Classics. Each game (apart from a few Single-Player only games) features intelligent computer-controlled opponents with various difficulty levels to choose from.

When you first play 42 All-Time Classics, some of the games will be locked. In order to unlock them for play, you'll need to complete games under certain conditions.

There are three modes made especially for the solo player: Free Play, Stamp and Mission.

Free Play

An open house where you're free to play any unlocked games with the rules of your choice. You can choose the number of computer players and their difficulty level, and change various rules settings. By winning games a number of times you can unlock new designs for them.

Stamp
Play through all available games and collect stamps for winning. Once you earn three stamps in a game, you move on to the next game. Stamp mode is where you can unlock new games and new chat features (see Chat section for more details).

Mission
Play through 30 specific missions; each with certain objectives to complete, such as winning a set number of chips in Black Jack. For each mission that you clear, you unlock a new icon. You can choose an icon to represent yourself when playing multiplayer games.

Multiplayer

Poker without bluffing? Chess without the battle of wits? Some games just wouldn't be the same if you couldn't play with real people. That's why 42 All-Time Classics features optional wireless multiplayer in the vast majority of its games.

Wireless means that up to eight people can connect their Nintendo DS systems together with only one copy of 42 All-Time Classics. If you haven't got any friends to hand, then use the online Nintendo Wi-Fi connection to connect to players all over the world. Plus, 42 All-Time Classics includes a built-in talk feature so that you can chat to your friends as you play!

Local Wireless

Got a group of friends, each with a Nintendo DS? Then indulge in 39 of the 42 All-Time Classics in multiplayer mode. Only one member of the group needs a copy of 42 All-Time Classics for everyone to play, thanks to the DS Download feature. The number of players varies depending on the game, from two up to eight players possible at once.

Gift Exchange
Any unlocked game can be sent via local wireless connection to a friend's Nintendo DS system as a gift. They can play the game against the computer for as long as they like, until they switch off their system. It's a great way of letting your friends discover the fun of 42 All-Time Classics!

Chat

While playing any of the wireless multiplayer games in 42 All-Time Classics, you can also chat to your opponents by sending and receiving messages. It works just like the PictoChat software built into every Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite.

Just tap the Chat button and you'll open up the Chat screen. Using the DS stylus like a pen, you can write messages and send them instantly to opponents. You can chat freely when playing a Multiplayer game via Local Wireless or with a friend over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. However, if you're playing a worldwide match over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection with people you don't know, chat is restricted to a set of pre-defined phrases.
