The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: Hit the ground running with some surface-level tips
We’re back with some more tips for the Legend of Zelda™: Tears of the Kingdom game! Once again, we’re going to refrain from any story spoilers, but we will talk about a location and gameplay option that you’ll encounter in the early hours of the game.
Go forth and wander
Hyrule is a vast land and encourages a healthy dose of wanderlust. Part of the fun is going on little adventures, seeing the sights, and exploring to your heart’s content.
With that said, if you ever need a destination, you can open your map and look for the gold marker. Players sometimes (very understandably) forget about the map markers when they’re making their way in the wild. We’ve even come up with a catchy rhyme to remember: If you’re lost and cold, look for the gold!
(Important note: The gold marker won’t actually warm up Link if he’s feeling cold.)
Don’t overlook Lookout Landing
Early on, you’ll come across a lovely little spot called Lookout Landing. Don’t just make this a one-time destination—try to come back every now and then to see if anything changes. Lookout Landing is also a useful place to stop by and snag some equipment or cooking ingredients. It’s like having a handy Hyrulian convenience mart.
It’s shrine by me
Looking to freshen up your combat skills? Try exploring around Hyrule Castle—a couple shrines near the castle may offer what you seek.
Safe travels
Keep your eyes out for the Travel Medallion—a curious item that allows you to quickly travel back to the spot where you set it (important note: this works for most but not all locations). To use it, first set it down somewhere in Hyrule. If you want to warp back to that spot during your adventure, open your map and select the Travel Medallion marker. The map also has a handy option to instantly collect the Travel Medallion and put it back into your inventory (so you don’t need to travel all the way back to pick it up).
Be sure to remember your Travel Medallion if you’re about to attempt something daring/questionable /ill advised. Getting back to your starting point is invaluable when it comes to experimentation (particularly if your daring feat involves sky islands and a whole lot of falling … not that we’re guilty of that).
