Both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite can be brought together with local wireless play to connect up to 8 nearby consoles for cooperative or versus play in games such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 2.

Left Stick / Left Stick Button

The stick acts as a button when pressed.

Directional Buttons (up, down, left, right)

Capture Button

Press to capture screenshots or vides during play.

Rail

Used to attach the controller to the console or a Joy-Con strap.

R Button

A/B/X/Y Buttons

Right Stick / Right Stick Button

The stick acts as a button when pressed. It's also the NFC (Near-Field Communication) touchpoint, where amiibo can be tapped in order to read and write data.

HOME Button

Press to suspend the current game and show the HOME Menu. The HOME Button lights up when a notification is received.

IR Motion Camera

Used to recognise hand shapes like rock/paper/scissors, identify shapes and movement, and calculate distance.

HD rumble

This gives games a level of immersion that visuals and audio alone cannot achieve. For example, when driving off-road or drifting for a speed boost in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

SYNC Button

Used to pair the controller with the console or to reset the controller's wireless connection.

The particular button changes depending on whether the strap is attached to the left or right Joy-Con.

About the + and − mark

Joy-Con straps can be attached to both Joy-Con (L) and Joy-Con (R). Match the + or - mark on the strap to the corresponding symbol on the controller.

Strap lock

Prevents the strap from slipping off your wrist.

Player LEDs

Indicates the controller number of the player using this Joy-Con.

Slide lock

Press it until you feel a click. This locks the strap in place so it won't separate from the Joy-Con. Lift the lock to release and slide the strap up to detach it from the Joy-Con.
