A world with a Divine Dragon who loves the people and a Fell Dragon who wishes to destroy them...
Collapsed and without a memory, Robin—the protagonist and player avatar—is rescued by Chrom, the prince of the Halidom of Ylisse. Chrom is the leader of a group known as the Shepherds, which Robin soon joins.
The very next day, however, the Shepherds are suddenly attacked by monsters called the Risen. They narrowly avoid disaster, thanks to the aid of a mysterious masked swordsman, who claims his name is Marth—the same as that of the legendary Hero-King—and promptly disappears.
To protect the people of Ylisse from the Risen, Chrom and the Shepherds venture to Regna Ferox in hopes of gathering reinforcements. There, while fighting in a tourney, they encounter Marth once again and this time cross swords. Marth's weapon is none other than Falchion, a treasured blade which can only be wielded by Ylissean royalty—and which somehow exists in duplicate.
A conspiracy begins to unfold, involving a threat from a neighboring kingdom that worships the Fell Dragon.
Drawn into countless battles, Chrom and the protagonist are drawn into a battle where the future is at stake...

This game features a gameplay mechanic called the Dual system, through which characters can help each other while adjacent on the battlefield, or even pair up and share the same space. The avatar system that debuted in Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem is further developed here, and players can experience an extensive variety of support conversations.
Another standout characteristic of this title is the way stories span a generation, from parents to their children, on a scale not seen since Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.
