Is it possible to run the different types of games for Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance on all Game Boy models?
There are four different types of Game Paks for the various Game Boy models:
- Original Game Boy Game Paks, compatible with Original Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance/Game Boy Advance SP and Super Game Boy.
- The so-called dual Game Boy Color games, which support the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance/Game Boy Advance SP (each allowing up to 56 colours from a palette of 32,000 displayable colours) as well as the Original Game Boy and Game Boy Pocket (using a four-step greyscale) and the Super Game Boy.
- Special Game Boy Color games designed for use with the Game Boy Color. These are marked as such on their packaging and cannot be run on conventional Game Boys or the Super Game Boy. These games can however be played on the Game Boy Advance/Game Boy Advance SP.
- Game Boy Advance games that were designed specifically for the Game Boy Advance/Game Boy Advance SP and cannot be played on other Game Boy models.
