Virtual Boy Game Pak Troubleshooting

If your symptom is not listed above, please try the general game pak troubleshooting steps.

If the specific game pak troubleshooting steps and the general game pak troubleshooting steps do not address the problem, the difficulty may be game play related. Check out our game play help options.

If these steps do not eliminate the symptoms you're experiencing with the Game Pak, we recommend contacting the manufacturer of the game. The name of the company will be printed on the Game Pak label and box. If the game was made by a company other than Nintendo, use our Licensee Directory to find the company's phone number and address. If the game was made directly by Nintendo, we are no longer able to repair Virtual Boy games, and suggest purchasing a replacement.

  • Game Pak Cover is Stuck in the Virtual Boy

    1. Look into the Game Pak slot on the Virtual Boy. Make sure you have a good light source. When you look into the Game Pak slot it should look like this:

      : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :

    2. If you cannot see the two rows of connectors and a Game Pak cover is missing, it is probably inside the slot.
    3. Remove the Controller and stand assembly from the Virtual Boy. With the Game Pak slot facing down, gently shake the Virtual Boy unit so the Game Pak cover falls out. It should fall out quite easily.

If the problem continues your system may need to be replaced. Click here for information on what to do.

General Game Pak Troubleshooting

Note: It is possible that the problem you have may be game play related. For example, if you cannot defeat a particular enemy, or are missing an item you need to complete an area, the problem is likely game play related and there is nothing wrong with your game. Please check our game play help for assistance. Otherwise, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Insert the Game Pak into the system. For home console systems, the Game Pak label should be facing the front of the machine. For portable systems, the Game Pak label should be facing away from the machine.
  2. Make sure the Game Pak firmly clicks down into place.
