When do you see this error?

There are no known issues that create this error with any Nintendo DS game card games. Our experience shows that if you see this error, your game is likely a counterfeit product. Please click here for information on identifying and reporting counterfeit products.

To test your Nintendo DS game card, try this testing tip:

      • Try playing the game in a Nintendo DS Lite or a Nintendo DS (original style).
        • If the game still does not work, it's more likely the game card is defective and will need to be replaced. Please click here for replacement options.
        • If the game works in either a Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite, our experience shows that the game is likely a counterfeit product.

  2. If you see this error when there is no Nintendo DS game card inserted into your system:
      • If you have not already done so, power the system off and then back on to see if this resolves the issue. If the issue persists after the system has been powered down, please call our Consumer Department at 1-800-255-3700 to speak to one of our representatives.

"There is nothing inserted in the Game Card slot"
Make sure that you have a Nintendo DS Game Card properly inserted into the Game Card slot of the system (how to). If you have made sure the game is being inserted properly but are still getting this message, then your system will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair options.

Important Note: If you only have one game that is experiencing this issue, it is likely a problem with the Game Card and not the system. Please click here for individual Game Card repair and replacement information.

"The SD Card is locked"
When trying to copy data to the SD card, or when trying to select the SD Card in Nintendo DSi Camera, and you receive this message, remove the SD Card and look for a small slider on the side of the card. This is the locking mechanism; slide this up to unlock the SD Card.

"The system memory has been corrupted"

If you receive the message "The system memory has been corrupted," delete the application you were using when you received the message (how to).

After the application has been deleted, redownload it (how to).

If you receive the message again, you will need to send your system in for repair. Click here for more information.

"There is not enough free space on the SD card"
Your SD Card is out of the required space to save whatever you are attempting to store. You will need to either erase unnecessary items on the SD Card from the Data Management screen under System Settings, or erase unnecessary photos or frames from Nintendo DSi Camera.

"There are no boxes available in the system"
Your system's memory is out of the required space to save whatever you are attempting to store. You will need to erase unnecessary items from the Data Management screen under System Settings, or erase unnecessary photos or frames from Nintendo DSi Camera (how to).

"Restricted by Parental Controls"
The Parental Controls have been set up to block the content you are trying to access. You will need to speak with whoever set the Parental Controls to their current setting. For more information on working with Parental Controls, click here.

"Battery power is running low. Please plug in the AC adapter"
This message can appear if you are trying to download an item from the Nintendo DSi Shop while the power light is red. This is a safety feature put into place to prevent the system from shutting off in the middle of a download, and possibly corrupting the data as a result. If this occurs, you should plug in the AC Adapter and try the download again.
