System Update

IMPORTANT: The Nintendo Switch system, specifications and services are constantly evolving and we may update or change them, in whole or in part without notice to you. Such updates or changes may be required for you to play Nintendo Switch games, enjoy features, or continue to access the Nintendo Switch services. After the Nintendo Switch system is updated, any existing or future unauthorized modification of the hardware or software of your Nintendo Switch system, or the use of an unauthorized device in connection with your system, may render the system permanently unusable. Content obtained through the unauthorized modification of the hardware or software of your Nintendo Switch system or through the use of on unauthorized device may be removed.

Important Safety Information

Read the following warnings before setup or use of the Nintendo Switch system. If this product will be used by young children, these instructions should be read and explained to them by an adult. Failing to do so may cause injury. Please also carefully review the information for the game you are playing and review any additional health and safety information.

Throughout these instructions, you will see this symbol followed by WARNING or CAUTION, or you may see the term NOTICE. These terms have different levels of meaning as outlined below. Please read and understand these terms and the information that appears after them before using your Nintendo Switch system.

WARNING: Warns you about incorrect use of this system that could result in serious personal injury.

CAUTION: Cautions you about incorrect use of this system that could result in personal injury or damage to the system, components, games, or accessories.

NOTICE: Informs you about incorrect use of the system that could result in damage to the system, components, games, or accessories.

WARNING - SEIZURES

  • Some people (about 1 in 4000) may have seizures or blackouts triggered by light flashes or patterns, and this may occur while they are watching TV or playing video games, even if they have never had a seizure before.
  • Anyone who has had a seizure, loss of awareness, or other symptom linked to an epileptic condition should consult a doctor before playing a video game.
  • Parents should watch their children play video games. Stop playing and consult a doctor if you or your child has any of the following symptoms:
    • Convulsions
    • Eye or muscle twitching
    • Loss of awareness
    • Altered vision
    • Involuntary movements
    • Disorientation

To reduce the likelihood of a seizure when playing video games:

  1. Sit or stand as far from the screen as possible.
  2. Play on the smallest available television screen.
  3. Do not play if you are tired or need sleep.
  4. Play in a well-lit place.
  5. Take a 10 to 15 minute break every hour.

WARNING - REPETITIVE MOTION INJURIES AND EYESTRAIN

Playing video games can make your muscles, joints, skin or eyes hurt. Follow these instructions to avoid problems such as tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, skin irritation or eyestrain:

  • Avoid excessive play. Parents should monitor their children for appropriate play.
  • Take a 10 to 15 minute break every hour, even if you don't think you need it.
  • If your hands, wrists, arms or eyes become tired or sore while playing, or if you feel symptoms such as tingling, numbness, burning or stiffness, stop and rest for several hours before playing again.
  • If you continue to have any of the above symptoms or other discomfort during or after play, stop playing and see a doctor.

CAUTION - MOTION SICKNESS

Playing video games can cause motion sickness in some players. If you or your child feels dizzy or nauseous when playing video games, stop playing and rest. Do not drive or engage in other demanding activity until you feel better.

WARNING - ELECTRIC SHOCK

To avoid electric shock when you use this system:

  • Please disconnect the AC adapter during o lightning storm. There may be o risk of electric shock from lightning.
  • To minimize the risk of damage to the system, only use Nintendo licensed AC adapters with your system.
  • Do not use the AC adapter if it has damaged, split or broken cords or wires.
  • Make sure that the AC adapter plug is fully inserted into the wall outlet or extension cord.
  • Always carefully disconnect all plugs by pulling on the plug and not on the cord.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS - SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

DANGER - TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK, CAREFULLY FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS

For connection to a supply not in the U.S.A., use an attachment plug adapter of the proper configuration for the power outlet, if needed.

WARNING - BATTERY LEAKAGE

The Nintendo Switch system and certain accessories contain a rechargeable lithium ion battery. Leakage of ingredients contained within the battery, or the combustion products of the ingredients, can cause personal injury as well as damage to your Nintendo Switch system. If battery leakage occurs, avoid contact with skin. If contact occurs, immediately wash thoroughly with soap and water. If liquid leaking from a battery comes into contact with your eyes, immediately flush thoroughly with water and see a doctor.

To avoid battery leakage:

  • Do not expose battery to excessive physical shock, vibration, or liquids.
  • Do not disassemble, attempt to repair, or deform the battery.
  • Do not dispose of battery in a fire.
  • Do not touch the terminals of the battery or cause a short between the terminals with a metal object.

WARNING - RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE

The Nintendo Switch system and accessories, including the controllers, can emit radio waves that can affect the operation of nearby electronics, including cardiac pacemakers.

  • Do not operate the Nintendo Switch system and accessories within 9 inches of a pacemaker.
  • If you have a pacemaker or other implanted medical device, do not use the Nintendo Switch system and accessories without first consulting your doctor or the manufacturer of your medical device.

CAUTION

When using headphones, set the volume at a safe level. Setting the volume too high may harm your hearing or damage the headphones.

SYSTEM AND ACCESSORIES PRECAUTIONS AND MAINTENANCE
  • Do not disassemble or try to repair the Nintendo Switch console, components, or accessories. Doing so may damage them.
  • Do not turn off the power, remove the game card, or remove the microSD card while data is being read or saved.
  • Do not store the Nintendo Switch system or game cards in a humid place, on the floor, or in any location where it may contact moisture, dirt, dust, lint, or any other foreign material.
  • Do not drop, hit, or otherwise abuse the Nintendo Switch console, components, game card or accessories. Doing so may damage the screen or other precision components of the Nintendo Switch console.
  • Make sure all connections to the Nintendo Switch system are made carefully and inserted into the correct locations only. Hold plugs straight when inserting them into sockets.
  • When disconnecting any plugs from the Nintendo Switch console or wall outlet, always carefully pull by the plug itself rather than by the cord.
  • Do not expose the Nintendo Switch console, game cards or any of the Nintendo Switch components or accessories to extreme heat or cold. The Nintendo Switch display may become slower or may not work when the temperature is low. The screen will deteriorate at a high temperature. Take care not to expose the Nintendo Switch system to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
  • The screen may be damaged by sharp objects or pressure. Take care to protect the display from scratches or stains.
  • Do not cover any console air intakes or vents while playing, to avoid overheating.
  • To minimize the risk of damage to the Nintendo Switch system, only connect Nintendo licensed accessories to any external connectors.
  • Do not spill liquids on the console, game cards, or other components or accessories. If liquids get into the system, do not charge the console. Contact Nintendo customer service for further instructions. If you have questions or experience problems with your system or accessories, please try our website at support.nintendo.com for troubleshooting information.
  • To minimize the risk of image retention or screen burn-in occurring on the OLED screen, do not turn off the system's default sleep mode settings and take care to not display the same image on the OLED screen for extended periods of time.
  • Do not peel off the anti-scattering adhesive film from the OLED screen of the console.
AC ADAPTER PRECAUTIONS

Please read and follow the precautions listed below when setting up and using the Nintendo Switch system. Failure to do so may result in damage to your Nintendo Switch system or accessories.

  • Plug the AC adapter into on easily accessible standard wall outlet near your Nintendo Switch system.
  • Be sure to connect the AC adapter to the correct voltage(100-240V).
  • Make sure there is adequate ventilation around the AC adapter and Nintendo Switch system, and that any air vents are unobstructed.
  • Do not expose the AC adapter or Nintendo Switch system to extremes of heat.
  • Do not expose the AC adapter or Nintendo Switch system to any type of liquid or high humidity.

GAME CARD PRECAUTIONS AND MAINTENANCE
  • Avoid touching the connectors with your fingers.
  • Always check the game card edge connector for foreign material before inserting the game card into the Nintendo Switch system.
IMPORTANT BATTERY GUIDELINES

To minimize the risk of damage to the Nintendo Switch system, when recharging the battery, use only Nintendo licensed AC adapters.

CLEANING THE SYSTEM

If the screen becomes dirty, please clean it using a soft clean cloth, such as a lens or eyeglass cleaning cloth. If the outside of the Nintendo Switch system comes into contact with liquids, wipe clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth (use water only). If the cleaning procedures do not solve the problem, please try our website at support.nintendo.com for troubleshooting information.

CONTROLLERS

When detaching the Joy-Con from the Nintendo Switch console, press the button on the back and slide.

PARENTAL CONTROLS

Parental controls can be used to restrict certain features of the Nintendo Switch system. For more information, please visit support.nintendo.com/switch/parents

WEARING THE Joy-Con™ STRAP

When playing with a controller detached from the Nintendo Switch console, use the strap. Lock and fasten the strap securely. Hold the controller firmly. Do not let go of it. Allow adequate room around you during game play.
