User-Verification Settings Guide
Steps for managing your user-verification settings on Nintendo Switch.
Information
If you wish, you can restrict access to viewing your virtual game cards on your Nintendo Switch console by requiring entry of a PIN or signing in to your Nintendo Account.
By default this setting is turned off, which means you will not be asked for verification to view your virtual game cards, and any other users on the system will also be able to freely access the list of your virtual game cards by selecting your user.
What to do
From the HOME Menu, select your user icon.
Scroll down and select User-Verification Settings.
You may be prompted to confirm your identity by re-entering your password, re-authenticating with your passkey, and/or by verifying your email address.
Password entry
If prompted to enter your password, enter it then select OK.Passkey re-authentication
If you have enabled passkey authentication, you can confirm your identity by signing in using your passkey.Email address verification
If prompted to verify your email address, select Submit to have an email with a verification code sent to the email address associated with your Nintendo Account. Locate the code in your email and enter it in the "Verification code" box, then click Submit. If you do not receive the email, but you have registered a phone number to your Nintendo Account, select Use another method to verify your identity on the "Email address verification" screen, then click Submit. A code will be sent via text message to your phone number—enter it in the "Verification Code" box and select Submit to verify your identity.
If you have not registered a phone number to your Nintendo Account (or the verification text message does not arrive) and do not receive the email, please follow our steps for Did Not Receive a Nintendo Account Identity Verification Email.
Select Verification Method and choose between "Sign In to a Nintendo Account" or "PIN".
If you chose PIN, follow the onscreen instructions to create a 4 to 8 digit PIN.
Choose whether or not to require user verification for each listed feature.
Additional information
Note that these settings are unique to each of your consoles. You can choose to use different methods on each of your consoles, and can have a unique PIN for each console.
With the PIN entry screen displayed, press the + button.
Select Sign In.
Sign in to your Nintendo Account.
A message will appear indicating that your PIN has been deleted. Select OK.
Note that this will not turn off user verification, but instead switch it to requiring you to sign in to your Nintendo Account. You can change back to the PIN verification method and create a new PIN in your User Settings.
