Unable to Select User to Set Up Parental Controls for GameChat

Follow these steps when you try to select a user to set up parental controls for GameChat in the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, but you receive one of the following error messages:

• "This user is linked to the Nintendo Account you've used to sign in to this app."

• "Link a Nintendo Account for this user."

Note:

If you just linked your child's Nintendo Account to the console, it may take a few minutes for the app to reflect the updates.

What to do

These messages indicate that there was an issue with the account you selected to set up parental controls for.

Make sure you have signed in to the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app using a Nintendo Account with the "Parent/Guardian" role in your Nintendo Account family group. You should also confirm which Nintendo Account is linked to your child's user account on your Nintendo Switch 2 console, then try selecting the user again in the app.

A Nintendo Account is required to use GameChat. If you had not yet created a Nintendo Account for your child and linked it to their user account, you'll need to do so in order to set up parental controls for them to use GameChat.
