Steps for when you cannot connect a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller to a Nintendo Switch 2 console.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter, and dock

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and USB charging cable

  • An Internet connection

What to do

  1. Install the latest system update.

    • How to perform a system update on Nintendo Switch 2

      1. Select the System Settings on the HOME Menu.

      2. Scroll down through the System Settings menu and select System.

      3. Select System Update, to start the system update process.

        • During the process, the system will first perform a check to determine if a new system update is available.

        • If an update is available, the download process will begin automatically.

    • Console already has the latest system update

      1. Press and hold the POWER Button for at least three seconds.

      2. Select Power Options.

      3. Select Restart.

  2. Check that the model number on the back of your controller, directly beneath the Nintendo logo, is BEE-008.

    • Model number is not BEE-008

All official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controllers have a model number of BEE-008. If a different controller is being used, replacing it with model No. BEE-008 may resolve the issue.

      • If you are having issues with a third-party controller, contact the controller's manufacturer for further assistance.

  3. Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console in the dock and power it on.

  4. Connect the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller to the dock using the included USB-C charging cable. Then press any button on the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, such as the A Button, to power it on and pair it to the console.

    • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller cannot be paired using the USB charging cable

      • If you are still having issues pairing the controller, the following steps may be helpful:

        • Press the SYNC Button once, then press any other button, such as the A Button on the controller to power it on again.

        • Use a different USB port on the dock.

        • Use a different USB-C charging cable.

        • Use a different dock, if available.

        • Pair the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller wirelessly.

      • If the Pro Controller cannot be paired to the Nintendo Switch 2 console, either wirelessly or via the USB-C charging cable, the Pro Controller will need to be assessed. Please contact us for support.

Additional information

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is only compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.

  • Up to eight wireless controllers can be connected to a Nintendo Switch 2 console; however, the maximum number of controllers that can be used will vary depending on the type of controllers, the features, and the software being used.

  • When a Bluetooth audio device is connected, no more than two wireless controllers can be connected to the system. Disconnect the Bluetooth audio device in order to connect a third controller.
