Unable to Join GameShare Session
Follow these steps if you try to join a GameShare session hosted by another player, but you aren't able to join.
Before you start
A Nintendo Switch 2 console is required to host a GameShare session. You can join another player’s session from a Nintendo Switch 2 console (local wireless or over the internet) or from a Nintendo Switch console (local wireless only).
All participating consoles must have the latest system update installed in order to use GameShare.
A Nintendo Switch Online membership and persistent internet connection are required to use GameChat. Note: During the Welcome Offer: GameChat until March 31, 2026, GameChat can be used without a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
You must register a phone number to your Nintendo Account to use GameChat.
What to do
Select the message you received and follow the steps to resolve the issue:
"You can't use GameShare if three or more wireless controllers are connected."
If you received this message, there are too many wireless controllers currently in use for GameShare to be used. Please keep in mind that each individual Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con controller counts as a single wireless controller, so a pair counts as two.Depending on the software, the number of players who will join on your console, and what controllers you have available, you may be able to:
Disconnect additional controllers you aren't using.
Use a single Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con controller in horizontal grip, rather than a pair.
Use a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, or similar wireless controller instead of a pair of Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con controllers.
Use a wired controller, or connect a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller or similar wireless controller using a wired connection.

"Please connect a controller that is compatible with the software being received."
If you received this message, the controllers you have connected currently aren't supported by the software that you're trying to join a GameShare session for.You'll need to connect a controller that is compatible with the software. Ask the person hosting the GameShare session what they are using or if they have suggestions on what controller to use.For tips on pairing controllers, please read our controller pairing FAQs for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
"You're restricted from playing this game due to the country/region settings on your Nintendo Account."
If you received this message, the software you're trying to join a GameShare session for is not available in your country or region.This restriction only applies when playing GameShare over the internet using GameChat.
"You cannot play this software."
