Unable to Access Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass Content

Follow these steps if you are unable to race on courses or use characters included with the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe software, updated to the latest version

  • Access to the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass, either by purchasing it through Nintendo eShop or downloading it for free through a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership

  • An internet connection

Complete these steps

  • Restart the Nintendo Switch console by holding the POWER Button for at least three seconds, then selecting Power Options, followed by Restart.

  • Open Nintendo eShop and search for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass to confirm that it displays as downloaded (if obtained through a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership) or purchased (if purchased separately).

  • Open Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the HOME Menu and select the user that will be playing.

    • If you downloaded the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass for free through a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, be sure you are connected to the internet and that you have selected a user linked to a Nintendo Account with an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.

  • On the title screen, check the lower-left corner of the screen for a Super Star icon directly to the right of the software version number.

Do you see the Super Star icon?

The Super Star icon indicates that the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass is currently downloaded on your console and that you have selected a user with access to the DLC.

To race on a course from the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass, select the number of players and racing mode (such as Single Player or Grand Prix). When you reach the course-selection screen, tilt the control stick up to view the available courses included in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass.

If the Super Star icon does not appear on the title screen, then the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass is not currently downloaded on the console, or the user selected does not have access to it.

How did you obtain the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass?

The virtual game card for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass may not currently be loaded to the console, or the data for the DLC may not be downloaded to the console.

  • Select Virtual Game Cards from the HOME Menu. Check whether the virtual game card for the DLC needs to be loaded to the console.

  • If it is already loaded, delete the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe software and DLC from your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console, then redownload it. Save data is not lost when deleting the software. If you use a physical game card for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, this will delete the update data and you'll need to update the software again.

  • Launch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe again and confirm that the Super Star icon now appears on the title screen.
