No Sound From One or Both System Speakers on Nintendo Switch 2

Steps to help you when there is no audio coming from one or both speakers on your Nintendo Switch 2 console when in handheld or tabletop mode.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 console

  • A game for testing

Remove your console from the dock before troubleshooting. While docked, the sound from the console speakers will automatically shut off.

What to do

  1. Confirm your console has the latest system version.

    • How to check for the latest system update

      1. Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.

      2. Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.

      3. Select System Update to start the system update process.

  2. With the system in handheld mode, unplug any headphones from it and disconnect any paired Bluetooth audio devices.

    • If the "Mute when Headphones are Disconnected" setting is turned on, the sound on the system speakers will be muted once headphones are disconnected. Unmute the system speakers by pressing one of the volume buttons.

        1. Select System Settings.

        2. Select System, then Mute when Headphones are Disconnected.

  3. Restart the console.

      1. Press and hold the POWER Button for at least three seconds.

      2. Select Power Options.

      3. Select Restart.

  4. Start a game or application, then increase the volume on the system by pressing the volume + button .

    • Still no sound from one or both speakers

      Try a different game or application to see if the issue persists.

Situation not resolved

If the issue persists, the system will need to be returned for assessment. If only one speaker is not working, please indicate if it is the left or right speaker.
