Joy-Con 2 Controller Power Issues
Follow these steps when:
Your Joy-Con 2 controllers will not turn on.
The battery charge indicator for the Joy-Con 2 controllers is not displaying correctly while paired to a Nintendo Switch 2 system.
The battery charge on the Joy-Con 2 does not last very long.
Before you start
You will need:
Your Nintendo Switch 2 console
Your Joy-Con 2 controllers
Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (MOD. NGN-01)
Access to power outlet
What to do
Unplug the AC adapter from both the wall and dock/console.
With the AC adapter unplugged, check that you are using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter.
How to check that you are using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter
The model number can be found on the side of the AC adapter. It should read NGN-01(AU) near the top of the text.
Not using a Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter
If the AC adapter for Nintendo Switch or a non-licensed AC adapter is being used, replacing it with the correct accessory may resolve the problem.
Due to the difference in power output between the AC adapters for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, we recommend using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter to charge Nintendo Switch 2 and controllers for the system. You can purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter from the My Nintendo Store.
With the AC adapter unplugged, check to see if it is damaged. Damage can include a frayed or split cord, loose connectors, kinks in the cable, etc.
The AC adapter is damaged
If any damage to the AC adapter is found, it will need to be replaced.

Detach the Joy-Con 2 controllers from the console.
How to detach Joy-Con 2 controllers from a Nintendo Switch 2
Important: After detaching the Joy-Con 2 controllers from the console, be sure to attach the Joy-Con 2 straps before starting a game or software.
Press the release button on the back of the Joy-Con 2.
While holding the release button down, pull the controller away from the console to detach it.
The Joy-Con 2 registration information is not deleted when the controllers are detached. You can now use them as wireless controllers.
Reset the Joy-Con 2 by pressing the SYNC Button once on each controller.
Attach the Joy-Con 2 to the console.
How to attach Joy-Con 2 to Nintendo Switch 2
Position the console so it's upright and facing you.
Bring the right Joy-Con 2 (controller with + Button) to the right side of the console.
Align the bottom of the controller close to the console, then bring the top close to the console. You will hear a click when it is securely attached.
Keep the area between the Joy-Con 2 and the console clear of any foreign objects.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the left Joy-Con 2 (controller with - Button).
The attached Joy-Con 2 controllers are ready to be used. They will also be paired wirelessly to the console and can be detached to use wirelessly.For more information, see How to Attach/Detach the Joy-Con 2 Controllers from Nintendo Switch 2.
Connect the AC adapter directly to the console and to a wall outlet. The console screen will power on and the battery charging indicator will momentarily be displayed on the upper left corner of the console screen.
Console screen remains off, but charging indicator appears
If the battery charge on the console is nearly depleted when the AC adapter is first plugged in, the screen will remain off and a charging indicator will be momentarily displayed on the top left corner of the console screen. If this happens, allow the console to charge for at least 15 to 30 minutes, then press the POWER Button to boot it up.
Console screen remains off, charging indicator does not appear
If the console is not charging at all, read Nintendo Switch 2 System Cannot Be Charged.
From the HOME Menu, select Controllers.
Check to see if the Joy-Con 2 are now charging.
How to check if the Joy-Con 2 are charging
The approximate battery charge for the console and any connected controllers will be displayed within the Controllers screen, along with an icon indicating whether or not they are charging.
The Joy-Con 2 charge, but do not charge fully or the charge does not last very long
The affected Joy-Con 2 will need to be repaired.
Joy-Con 2 are not charging
If the Joy-Con 2 are not charging, try the following:
Ensure that the console is powered on or in Sleep Mode. The console must be connected to the AC adapter and powered on or in Sleep Mode for the Joy-Con 2 to charge.
If available, try a different Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter.
If available, try charging the Joy-Con 2 using the Charging Grip.
If the Joy-Con 2 are able to charge correctly using a Charging Grip, but not while attached to the console, there may be an issue with the console and it will need to be repaired. Please contact us for additional support if this is the case.
If the issue persists, the affected Joy-Con 2 will need to be repaired.
Additional information
Joy-Con 2 take approximately three and a half hours to fully charge.
The console must be connected to the AC adapter and powered on or in Sleep Mode for the Joy-Con 2 to charge while attached to the console.
To ensure optimal performance, ensure that the console has the latest system update.
How to check for the latest system update
Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
Select System Update to start the system update process.
The system will check to see if an update is available.
