Issues with Software Played via GameShare
Follow these steps if you run into issues while playing a game through GameShare on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.
Before you start
A Nintendo Switch 2 system and software which supports GameShare are required to host a GameShare session.
A Nintendo Switch Online membership and persistent internet connection are required to use GameChat. Note: During the GameChat Open-Access Period until March 31, 2026, GameChat can be used without a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Visit Nintendo's Network Status page and check for any posted service maintenance or outages.
Please wait until the outage or maintenance has ended and check whether the issue is resolved before following this troubleshooting.
In addition to the network-focused troubleshooting below, it may help to review the guidance on how to start a multiplayer game for the specific software you're using.
What to do
Are you using GameShare over local wireless, or over the internet?
Local Wireless
Restart each system by holding down the POWER Button for at least 3 seconds, then select Power Options and then Restart.
Place the systems between two and three meters apart.
Remove any metal, glass, or electronic objects between or near the systems.
Temporarily suspend the use of any nearby devices using wireless communication, such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
Over the internet via GameChat
Note: The host and guests for the GameShare session should go through this troubleshooting with their own systems and network environments.
Restart the system by holding down the POWER Button for at least 3 seconds, then select Power Options and then Restart.
Try troubleshooting your download and upload speeds to improve your connection. Your network's NAT Type may also impact your connection to other players in the GameChat room.
If you're using a wireless connection while using the console in TV Mode, try setting up a wired connection.
Disable your video camera and hide other players' shared screens to reduce bandwidth usage.
Try different layouts for your GameChat screen.
On the host's side, using a layout where the gameplay takes up less of the screen will reduce the image quality shared to other players.
