How to Upgrade Nintendo Switch Software to Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Steps for purchasing an upgrade pack to upgrade a Nintendo Switch game to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of a game comprises the original Nintendo Switch game and its upgrade pack, which enhances the game to take advantage of the capabilities of the Nintendo S witch 2 console. Please note that upgrade packs are available only for select games.

Contents and enhancements of the upgrade pack vary by game. They can include visual improvements, new features and additional game modes. These features can only be played on Nintendo Switch 2.

If you already have the original Nintendo Switch game as either a physical or digital version, you can upgrade it to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition by purchasing the game's upgrade pack from Nintendo eShop, My Nintendo Store or retailers. After you upgrade the game, the original Nintendo Switch game can still be played on Nintendo Switch, though the features and content of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can only be played on Nintendo Switch 2.

    • You can buy digital codes for upgrade packs at retailers that sell Nintendo games. To download the upgrade pack, visit Nintendo eShop on your console and redeem the download code on the card.
