How to Grant or Revoke GameChat Video Chat Permission in the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls App

Follow these steps to use the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app to review requests from your child to enable their video camera while using GameChat.

Before you start

  • You must set up GameChat Parental Controls before your child can use GameChat and send requests to use video chat.

  • Video chat use must not be fully disabled by your Parental Controls settings in order to receive requests.

  • You will not receive push notifications about your child's GameChat requests if you have notifications for the app turned off, or specifically turned off the "Your Child's Activity" category.

  • To use video chat, your child will need a compatible USB camera such as the Nintendo Switch 2 camera (sold separately).

Complete these steps

  • Select the notification you received on your smart device or open the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls smart device app separately.

  • Your child's request will appear in the app. Select Next.

    • If this is your first time handling a video chat request, review the information about video chat and select Next again after reading each page.

  • Review the members in your child's GameChat session.

  • If you would like to grant permission, select Yes. Otherwise, select No.

  • After granting permission, select Play Activity in the bottom-left corner.

  • While video chat is in use, a menu will appear at the top indicating that you granted permission. You can select the three dots icon here to change the camera field of view setting for video chat, or select Revoke Permission if you no longer want your child to be able to use video chat during this GameChat session.

    • The camera field of view can be set to "Camera Off", "Face-Only View", "Focused View (No Surroundings)" or "Full Camera View". Your child can select which option they want to use within the range you set.
