How to Change In-Game Control Settings (Mario Kart World)

Follow these steps to adjust various in-game settings in Mario Kart World, such as smart steering and auto-accelerate.

What to do

  • Open the "Settings/Controller" menu one of the following ways:

    • When selecting your kart before starting a race or other mode, press the X Button.

    • While in Single Player, Multiplayer or Free Roam modes, press the + Button or - Button to pause the game, then press the X Button.

  • You can change the following settings. When more than one player is playing on the same console, each player can change these settings for themselves.

    • Smart Steering: Can be turned on or off. Turn on to make it easier to drive without falling off the course.

    • Auto-Accelerate: Can be turned on or off. Turn on to automatically accelerate during races without needing to hold a button.

    • Auto-Use Item: Can be turned on or off. Turn on to automatically use items. The timing depends on the item you're holding.

    • Tilt Controls: Can be turned on or off. Turn on to steer your character by tilting your controller. Requires a controller that support motion controls. Recommended when using a Joy-Con 2 controller inserted into a Joy-Con 2 wheel.

    • Vertical Camera: Can be set to normal or inverted to change how the camera is controlled. Cannot be changed when using a Joy-Con 2 controller held horizontally or inserted into a Joy-Con 2 wheel.

    • Horizontal Camera: Can be set to normal or inverted to change how the camera is controlled. Cannot be changed when using a Joy-Con 2 controller held horizontally or inserted into a Joy-Con 2 wheel.

    • Minimap: Can be turned on or off. Turn on to display an outline of the course you're racing on or turn off to hide it.

    • Dash Food: Can toggle whether this transforms or doesn't transform your character when they have different outfits.
