General Problems with Downloaded Software for Nintendo Switch 2 (Freezing, Not Responding, etc.)

Help for when you are trying to play a downloaded game for Nintendo Switch 2 and there is a long load time, a long lag, the console freezes or will not respond.

Before you start

If you encounter problems while playing a Nintendo Switch game on Nintendo Switch 2, we have separate troubleshooting steps available. Follow the steps below only if you run into issues while playing a Nintendo Switch 2 game on a Nintendo Switch 2 console (including Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games).

Possible solutions

  • Restart your console: hold down the POWER Button for three seconds, select Power Options and then select Restart.

    • If the console does not respond, hold down the POWER Button for twelve seconds to force it to shut down. Then power it on again.

  • Verify that your console has the latest system update.

  • Check for software updates for each title encountering the issue.

  • Check for any corrupted data for the problematic software.

  • Delete each title encountering the issue and then redownload it.

  • If a microSD Express card is being used with the console, try the following:

    • Format the microSD Express card.

    • Use a different microSD Express card.

    • Remove the microSD Express card and download the game directly to the system memory.
