Captured Screenshots or Video Appear Blurry or Low Quality

Helpful information if you find that screenshots or videos you captured during gameplay seem lower resolution than expected.

Information

When playing software using GameShare or in a GameChat session, captured screenshots or videos may be lower quality than playing the software on its own.

While in a GameChat session

  • The display you choose in the GameChat settings can affect the image quality for screenshots and videos. Full-screen will retain the highest quality of the options available.

  • Screenshots and videos taken during a GameChat session only reflect your own gameplay screen and do not include video or audio from other players in the session or from your own microphone.

While playing software using GameShare

  • The quality of the game image is reduced when it's transferred using streaming technology, but the feature is developed to maintain a high-quality image as much as possible. A guest user who joined the GameShare session will only be able to take screenshots and video of the gameplay streamed to their console, so the quality may be lower than on the host's side and will also depend on the connection quality between the consoles. The GameShare interface at the top of the screen will be included in captures on a guest's console, but not on the host's console.

  • When using GameShare with participants in a GameChat session, the image quality will be affected by both the host's and participants' display settings.

  • The ability to capture screenshots or videos while using GameShare depends on the software specifications. Some games may allow it while others may not.

  • Regardless of which game is being played, it's not possible to capture videos on a Nintendo Switch console while using GameShare.
