What’s in the well?

A world of secrets

This dense, puzzle-box world is filled with secrets. As you explore, light candles for safety and you’ll gradually fill your map. There isn’t a set path to follow: You can explore and collect items in whatever order you wish.

Attention to detail is rewarded

Observation is key—enemies, environments, and items interact in surprising ways. In fact, all items have multiple uses! Some seemingly innocent details may even take on greater meaning…

Tread carefully

Assess your surroundings and watch out for danger. But also stop to take in the atmosphere—this game is more about tension and suspense than it is about action.

Tips from the developer

If you’re just starting out, here are a couple tips from Billy Basso—the sole developer of Animal Well:

  • Animal Well is all about exploration and observation. If you're not sure how to proceed, keep an eye out for hidden pathways that may lead to new areas or other surprises.

  • Visit the peacock room early and often!

  • Animal Well is designed with three different layers. The first layer is the basic content you’re required to complete to get to the end of the main game. The second layer requires deeper exploration and some more challenging puzzles you may not have noticed your first time around. The third level is intended to be a big challenge with lots of puzzles you may not even realize are puzzles!
