Animal Crossing: City Folk

 

 

Before you can use the online features of Animal Crossing: City Folk

In order to use the online features of Animal Crossing: City Folk, you must complete the following:

  • Your Wii console must be connected online. For first-time set up assistance, click here.
  • You must first complete the part time job at Tom Nook's shop. This entails running several errands for Tom Nook, such as introducing yourself to other villagers, and delivering certain items.
  • In order to visit or chat with other players, you must first exchange Friend Codes. Please see the information below for additional details on how to obtain and register Friend Codes.

Find your Friend Code

Exchanging in-game Friend Codes will allow players to visit each other via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and participate in text and voice chats together. The information below describes how to find your Friend Code so that you can give it to your friend. They will then need to register it in their game.

  1. Go through the archway at the top of the town and speak to Copper (the dog to the right of the gate).
  2. Select "Friend Code!" and Copper will explain what a Friend Code is. Then select "I want one!" to connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and obtain one.
  3. After the Friend Code has been issued, select "Friends" from the In-Game Menu (the Heart icon), then select the Key icon to view the Code whenever you like.

Add a friend to your friends list

Exchanging in-game Friend Codes will allow players to visit each other via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and participate in text and voice chats together. The information below describes how to add a friend's Friend Code to your game.

  1. While playing Animal Crossing, point the Wii Remote at the screen to bring up the in-game menu.
  2. Select the "Friends Menu" (the heart), then select "Register a Friend."
  3. Enter the Friend Code and select "Confirm."
  4. Enter the Friend's name and select "Confirm," then enter the Friend's town and select "Confirm."
  5. Enter a comment, or select "Confirm" to bypass.
  6. Once the other player has added your Friend Code as well, you will be free to visit each other's towns.

Allow friends to visit your town

Up to three friends can visit a village at a time. You must have exchanged Friend Codes with a friend to use this online feature.

  1. Go through the archway at the top of the town and speak to Copper (the dog to the right of the gate).
  2. Select "Invite Guests" to open the gate.
  3. The game will automatically save, connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (this may take a few moments), then the gate will open.
  4. When someone comes to visit, a message will appear on the screen letting you know.
  5. When you no longer wish to accept visitors, talk to Copper again and select "Close the Gate."
  6. Select "Yup" to confirm, and the gate will close. (Turning off the game will also automatically shut the gate.)

Visit a friend's town

Up to three friends can visit a village at a time. You must have exchanged Friend Codes with a friend to use this online feature.

  1. Go through the archway at the top of the town and speak to Copper (the dog to the right of the gate).
  2. Select "I Wanna Go Out." Select "Nintendo WFC."
  3. Note: Only friends who are currently online with their gates open will show up on the list.

  4. Select the town that you wish to visit, then select "Confirm."
  5. When ready to go home, return to the Main Gate and talk to Copper.
  6. Select "Yep" to return home.

Voice chat with Wii Speak

Players that have exchanged Friend Codes can participate in live voice chat using the Wii Speak microphone. Important: Voice chat can only be done while in the same village together. So if a friend visits your town, or if you visit a friend's town, you can chat with the friend for the duration of the visit.

  1. With the power turned off on the Wii console, plug the Wii Speak microphone into a USB Port on the back of the Nintendo Wii system and insert a copy of Animal Crossing: City Folk. (For more set up information, click here.)
  2. Turn the system on, and select the Animal Crossing: City Folk disc channel icon, and select "Start" to load the title screen.
  3. Visit a friend's town or open the gates in your town so that friends can visit.
  4. Aim the Wii Remote at the screen to make the in-game menu appear, and select "Friends" (the heart icon).
  5. Select "Mic Chat" (the microphone icon), and turn the mic chat feature on.
  6. As soon as two friends are in the same town together, the Wii Speak microphone will automatically begin picking up their voice(s).

Text chat

Players that have exchanged Friend Codes can participate in text chat. Important: Text chat can only be done while in the same village together. So if a Friend visits your town, or if you visit a friend's town, you can text chat with the Friend for the duration of the visit.

  1. Visit a friend's town or open the gates in your town so that friends can visit.
  2. Aim the Wii Remote at the screen to make the in-game menu appear, and select "Keyboard."
  3. Use the onscreen keyboard to type a message. Select the pink "Up" Arrow to submit the message. The message will appear on the screen next to your character.
  4. Note: You can also use a compatible keyboard to type your text messages.
