Playing online ("You have been disconnected" errors, matchmaking, 'Spectator Mode', etc.)
Make sure you are connected to the internet using a cable, DSL, or fiber optic connection. Other connection types, such as dial-Up, satellite, and cellular/mobile connections are typically not compatible. While some Internet Service Providers identify these types of networks as "high speed" or "broadband," they are not fast enough to be compatible with Super Smash Bros: Brawl. If you are unsure what type of internet connection you have, contact your Internet Service Provider for more details.

"My Wii Remote does not work" -- "I can't get past 'Create a new save file?' screen"
Because Super Smash Bros. Brawl uses different controller configurations based on the type of controller being used, the buttons are sometimes reassigned to different functions. If you are using the Wii Remote without the Nunchuk, the Wii Remote needs to be held sideways, with the crosspad to the left and the 1 and 2 buttons to the right. This configuration reassigns the Nunchuk joystick control to the crosspad on the Wii Remote, and the A button functions to the 2 button.
To create a new save file and start the game, press the 2 button on the Wii Remote. You can also plug your Nunchuk into your Wii Remote and use the A button to make the "Yes" or "No" selection. More information on the different controller configurations can be found on page 5 of the game instruction manual.
