Step by step instructions on how to temporarily sync the Wii Remote to a Wii console.
Important Note!
- Only a Wii Remote in Standard Mode can turn the Wii console power ON or OFF.
One Time Mode Synchronization allows temporarily use of a Wii Remote on a Wii console other than your console, or to use a friend's remote on your console. It can also be used to change the order of the Wii Remotes without the need to turn off the Wii console.
One Time Mode does not delete the Standard Mode setting stored in the Wii Remote. In this mode, the Wii Remote will only communicate with the Wii console while the power is on. When the power is turned off, the Wii Remote will lose its sync with the Wii Console. When the power is turned back on again, the Standard Mode settings will return.
What to do:
- Press the HOME Button on a Wii Remote that is synchronized with the Wii console.
- Select the Wii Remote Settings option from the Home Button menu.
- Select the Reconnect Option.
- Press the 1 and 2 Buttons at the same time on the Wii Remote that you want to synchronize with the console.
- If you are syncing multiple Wii Remotes, press the 1 and 2 Buttons on each Wii Remote immediately (without a significant pause) in the order you want them synced. The order in which you synchronize Wii Remotes determines the player order (1 through 4) for multiplayer games.
- The Player LED will blink during the syncing process. When the blinking stops, the connection is complete.

Step by step instructions on how to connect the Wii to the television using AV Cables.
What to do:
- On your television, locate a set of yellow, red, and white holes labeled "Input."
- Audio/Video (AV) inputs are typically located on the back of the TV, but occasionally are on the sides, top, or bottom. They may also be located behind a hidden panel or door in the television.
- Look for inputs marked Audio and Video IN.
- Do NOT connect the system to anything marked OUT.
- If you are unable to locate these inputs on your TV, click here for tips.
- Insert the AV Multi Out plug of the Wii AV Cable into the AV Multi Out connector on the back of the console.
- Insert the colored connectors on the Wii AV Cable into the input connectors on the TV. Plug the colored connectors into the following inputs:
Yellow: Video Input
White: Audio Input Left (or Mono)
Red: Audio Input Right
- The Wii console supports Dolby Pro Logic II for simulated surround sound. If you have a surround sound stereo and wish to use this feature, click here for set up information.
- Once the cables are inserted and the Wii is powered on, find the Input Select for the TV to view the game (it is likely not going to be seen on Channel 3 or 4). Typically this is found by pressing the TV/Video button on the television's front panel or remote control. If there is more than one input channel, keep pressing TV/Video until you see the display from the Wii.
If you do not have a TV/Video button, then the input could be labeled something different. Some common input selects to look for on the TV or remote are: Input, Input Select, EXT, AUX, AV, or a channel such as 00 or 99. Click here for more information about Input Selects.

Important Note!
- Some DVD Recorders also have DVR (i.e. TiVo) functionality. The DVR system will digitize the input signal a delay of up to one second, and can make playing a video game extremely difficult.
- In order to connect a video game system through a device such as a VCR, DVR, cable or satellite box, it must have Video and Audio "inputs." While most VCRs and VCR/DVD combos have these inputs, other devices typically have "Outputs" which will not work for playing your Wii console. Please verify that the device you are attempting to use has these inputs.
- Do NOT connect the system to anything marked OUT.
What to do:
- Make sure that the VCR is properly connected to the TV.
- Turn on the TV and VCR and set the TV to the appropriate channel to view a movie (typically channel 3 or 4). If the VCR is connected via AV cables, the TV may need to be on the proper Input Select.
- Place the VCR in VCR mode by either playing a movie and stopping it (but not turning the VCR off) or by pressing the TV/VCR button.
- Insert the AV Multi Out plug of the Wii AV Cable into the AV Multi Out connector on the back of the console.
- Insert the colored connectors on the Wii AV Cable into the input connectors on the VCR. Make sure you are plugging the connectors into the holes labeled "Input" or "In". Holes labeled "Output" or "Out" will not work. Plug the colored connectors into the following inputs:
- If the VCR or stereo system is capable of producing a surround sound output, you will need to enable Surround Sound on the console after the hookup is complete in order for the console to output a surround sound signal. Click here for setup information.
- Find the Input Select for the VCR to view the game. This is usually a button on the original remote control labeled Input Select, AUX, Input, EXT, Line In, or a high or low channel. Click here for more information about Input Selects.

Step by step instructions for how to place the Wii console horizontally or vertically.
Take a look at your Wii console and find the model number, located on a sticker next to the bar code. What is the model number?
Applies To: RVL-001 (Serial Number starts with "LU")
What to Do:
The first step in connecting your Wii is to decide how you would like the console to rest. The Wii is designed with two options in mind: laying it horizontally (flat), or sitting it vertically on its side by using the included Wii Stand and Stand Plate. When deciding on which position to place the Wii, consider your home entertainment area, and which position allows enough room for the Wii's internal fan to keep the system cool.
Placing the Wii Vertically:
- Attach the Wii Stand Plate to the bottom of the Wii Console Stand by inserting the prongs into the slots on the bottom of the stand (see illustration).
- Firmly slide the Wii Stand Plate into the slots until you hear a click.
- Place the console stand on a flat surface and place the Wii console into the stand. Lower the Wii console straight down into the console stand rather than sliding it in from the front.

Placing the Wii Horizontally:
- Place the Wii console on a flat horizontal surface.
- The rubber feet should be facing down, the POWER button should be on the left, and the disc slot should be on top.
- Keep the Wii Console Stand and Wii Stand Plate for future use in the event you wish to switch the Wii's position to a vertical setting.
- If you plan on playing Nintendo GameCube games with your Wii while it is in the horizontal position, you must remove the controller socket cover to allow the console to lay completely flat. (How To)

Applies To: RVL-101 (Serial Number starts with "KU")
Note: Only Wii consoles with model number RVL-001 are intended to be placed vertically. (learn more)
What to Do:
Placing the Wii Horizontally:
- Place the Wii console on a flat horizontal surface.
