Nintendo 64 AV to VCR Hookup

Important Note:
We highly recommend you review the following precautions before you set up and operate your Nintendo system:

Installation Steps:

  1. Locate the Audio/Video inputs on the back or the front of the VCR.
  2. Connect the three plugs as listed below. Use a slight slight twisting motion when inserting each cable and ensure the cables are firmly pressed into the input.

    • Yellow to Video IN
    • Red to Audio IN (R) Right
    • White to Audio IN (L) Left

Note: If you only have one audio input you will have one extra plug. Click here for a diagram of how to complete your hookup. The Y-adapter pictured is optional. You can leave the white cable disconnected.

  3. Connect the rectangular (gray) plug of the Stereo AV Cable into the "multi-out" connector on the back of the N64 system.
After system is connected to the VCR:
  1. Insert Game Pak fully into the Control Deck.
  2. Plug the Controller(s) into the front of the Control Deck using the left most port for Player 1.
  3. Plug the AC Adapter into the back of the Control Deck. Plug the other end into a wall outlet.
  4. Set the VCR's TV/VCR button to VCR. You can put a movie in the VCR, press play, make sure you see the movie on the TV, then press stop. This puts your VCR into VCR mode.
  5. Slide the Power Switch on (toward Game Pak). Make sure the red Power Light comes on. If it does not, link here for troubleshooting.
  6. Turn on the VCR and locate the input select on your VCR.

Important Note: You are looking for an input select for your VCR ONLY. You will not need to adjust or change any settings on your TV.
