Game Boy Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I play Game Boy games on my TV?

If you would like to play Game Boy games on your TV, you may be interested in the Game Boy Player. This device attaches to the bottom of your Nintendo GameCube and allows you to play almost any Game Boy game ever made, on your TV! For more information on this product, please visit www.gameboyplayer.com.

Some Game Boy games are compatible with the N64 Transfer Pak. The Transfer pak is an accessory that allows for downloading of Game Boy game data into an N64 game via the Controller for games designed for this feature. The N64 Transfer Pak plugs right into the Controller Pak slot of the N64's controller. On the front side, you will find another slot, made for standard Game Boy cartridges.

      Transfer Pak features include:
    • Imports game data from a compatible Game Boy title.
    • Saves data from an N64 game to a compatible Game Boy game.
    • Allows players to enjoy certain Game Boy games on their N64, when using particular N64 software. For example, in the case of Pokemon Stadium, players can play Pokemon Red, Blue, or Yellow using the Pokemon Stadium game pak and N64 Transfer Pak.

A new copy of Pokemon Stadium came packaged with the Transfer Pak, or the Transfer Pak may be purchased separately at retail locations (need help finding one?), Nintendo's Online Store, or by calling our Customer Support number at 1-800-255-3700 between 6am and 7pm (PST) 7 days a week.

  • Can I use rechargeable batteries with my Game Boy?

The Game Boy Advance SP uses a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery. For more information on this, link here.

For all other Game Boy systems: Nintendo recommends against the use of rechargeable batteries with its products, unless they were specifically designed to use them (such as with a Game Boy Advance SP or Nintendo DS) or when a licensed, rechargeable battery accessory exists. Nintendo recommends that players use only alkaline batteries with its products.

There are also AC Adapters available for the Game Boy Advance and for the Game Boy Color/Game Boy pocket. They can be purchased separately from Nintendo's Online Store, or by calling our Customer Support number at 1-800-255-3700 between 6am and 7pm (PST) 7 days a week.
