Battery and Power Problems
- Power light flashes rapidly
This is normal. It means that the unit is using the wireless connection
to communicate with another system.
- Power light is red
The red power light is an indicator that the rechargeable battery
is running low on power. Try recharging the
battery; if that does not solve your problem, then the battery
is not holding its charge. Please click here
for more information.
- Can't turn power off
Press and hold the Power switch up for a few
seconds. The DS Lite is designed with a delay to prevent accidentally
turning the unit off. If you are still unable to turn the power
off, your system will need to be repaired. Click here for repair options.
- Power light flashes slowly
and the screen is blank
The system is in sleep mode. This is will only happen when the lid
is closed. When the lid is opened, the unit should turn back on.
If it doesn't, the system will need to be repaired. Click here for repair options.
- Replacement Battery Doesn't
Fit
The only battery that will fit is an official Nintendo DS Lite battery,
which is only available through Nintendo. If you received your replacement
battery from any other source, it could be an unlicensed
product.
- Power light and/or
charge light do not come on
- Make sure you are following the proper instructions for charging
the battery. We also recommend trying different power outlets
in your home, to ensure it is not an issue with the outlet.
- Make sure you are using the official rechargeable battery
from Nintendo, which is only available through Nintendo. If
you received your replacement battery from any other source,
it could be an unlicensed product.
If the power light and/or charge light do not come on after considering
the steps above, your system will need to be repaired. Click here for repair options.
- Charging takes longer or
doesn't last as long as it used to
- The Nintendo DS Lite has four levels of brightness. The battery will last 15-19 hours on the lowest settings, and 5-8 hours on the brightest. This can also vary depending on the type of game activity (wireless multiplayer consumes more power than single player games).
- The Nintendo DS Lite rechargeable battery's capacity will decrease
over time and with use. If you have been using and charging
your Nintendo DS extensively, you may consider purchasing a
replacement battery. (Battery life can be expected to drop after
about 500 charges.)
- If you are using a replacement battery, make sure you are
using the official rechargeable battery from Nintendo, which
is only available through Nintendo. If you received your replacement
battery from any other source, it could be an unlicensed
product.
If you have a licensed battery that has not been used extensively,
your system will need to be repaired. Click here for repair options.
