Step by step instructions on how to install batteries into the Wii Remote.
Important Note!
If you would like to use rechargeable batteries, the only type of battery recommended is Nickel Metal Hydride. When it comes to using rechargeable batteries, you must follow manufacturer guidelines for safety and proper usage. Failure to do so could cause damage to the Wii Remote and void the warranty.
What to do:
- Remove the battery cover on the back of the Wii Remote.
- Insert two AA batteries, using the plus (+) and minus (-) guides in the Wii Remote's battery compartment to insert the batteries in the proper direction. Be sure to insert the minus (-) end first and remove the plus (+) end first when replacing the batteries.
- Replace the battery cover.

Step by step instructions on how to connect the Wii to the television using AV Cables.
What to do:
- On your television, locate a set of yellow, red, and white holes labeled "Input."
- Audio/Video (AV) inputs are typically located on the back of the TV, but occasionally are on the sides, top, or bottom. They may also be located behind a hidden panel or door in the television.
- Look for inputs marked Audio and Video IN.
- Do NOT connect the system to anything marked OUT.
- If you are unable to locate these inputs on your TV, click here for tips.
- Insert the AV Multi Out plug of the Wii AV Cable into the AV Multi Out connector on the back of the console.
- Insert the colored connectors on the Wii AV Cable into the input connectors on the TV. Plug the colored connectors into the following inputs:
Yellow: Video Input
White: Audio Input Left (or Mono)
Red: Audio Input Right
- The Wii console supports Dolby Pro Logic II for simulated surround sound. If you have a surround sound stereo and wish to use this feature, click here for set up information.
- Once the cables are inserted and the Wii is powered on, find the Input Select for the TV to view the game (it is likely not going to be seen on Channel 3 or 4). Typically this is found by pressing the TV/Video button on the television's front panel or remote control. If there is more than one input channel, keep pressing TV/Video until you see the display from the Wii.
If you do not have a TV/Video button, then the input could be labeled something different. Some common input selects to look for on the TV or remote are: Input, Input Select, EXT, AUX, AV, or a channel such as 00 or 99. Click here for more information about Input Selects.

What to do:
- Power on your Wii console and press the A Button on the Wii Remote to reach the Wii main menu. Use the Wii Remote to select the "Wii" button.
- Select "Wii Settings" to access the "Wii System Settings" menu.
- Using the arrow on the right side of the screen, scroll to page two and select "Internet."
- Select "Connection Settings."
- Select "Connection 1: None."
- If you do not have an empty connection slot, you will need to clear a slot. (How To)
- Click on "Wireless Connection," then click "Search for an Access Point."
- Select "OK." The Wii will display all the wireless networks it finds.
- Select the wireless network that is yours.
- Select "OK," "Save Settings," and then "Yes."
- The Wii console will run a connection test with your wireless network. When the test is completed, you should see the following screen:
- If the connection test succeeds, then your Wii is now connected to the internet. Click here to find out what's next!
- If the connection test was not successful, you will receive an error code.
- Error Code 51330 or 52130: This means the security code you entered into the Wii is not the same one your router is set to. Look in your router's settings and try again. Please refer to step eight (8) above for more information.
- All other error codes: Try our error code troubleshooting where we have detailed information on many common error codes. (You can ignore any "Wii Support Code" you receive on a connection test.)

(If you're not sure which is yours, or you don't see any wireless networks,
Asked to enter a security key?
If you are prompted to "Enter the Password or Key," then the wireless network you are trying to connect to has wireless security turned on. You will need to type in your security key or password and select "OK."
(If you don't know your Network Security Key, click here.)

As long as you see "The connection test was successful," the "Wii Support Code" does not matter and can be ignored.

Step by step instructions on how to identify a wireless router.
What to do:
- Brand and model - Find the brand name and model number on the device. Once you have those, check out our wireless router pages. If it's listed, then it's a wireless router!
- Antenna - Wireless routers often have some type of broadcast antenna. If the device doesn't have one, then it may be a wired router or a modem.
- Number of ports - In most cases a router will have four or more ports on the back. If the device has three or fewer ports, it is likely a modem and not a wireless router.
- Wi-Fi indicator light - Most wireless routers will have a Wi-Fi indicator light that blinks when it is broadcasting a signal.
- Search for it online - You can try searching online for the brand name and model number of your device. The search results may indicate if the device is a wireless router or not.
